Galax Old Fiddlers’ Convention
The oldest and largest old-time fiddlers’ convention in the world — held every August in Galax, Virginia, since 1935.
A Southwest Virginia Institution
Since 1935 — pausing only for World War II — the Galax Old Fiddlers’ Convention has drawn thousands of musicians, campers, and listeners to Felts Park in Galax, Virginia. It is the oldest and largest gathering of its kind in the world, and it remains a true community event: part competition, part reunion, and part week-long campground jam.
What makes Galax special is that the music never stops when the stage closes. Walk the campground after dark and you will find circles of fiddles, banjos, and guitars playing under the trees until the small hours — players of every age and skill, teaching and learning the way this music has always been passed down.
